The late 1980's was an eventful period in the business of numismatics, as it marked the dawn of the modern era dominated by third party graders, namely PCGS, founded in 1986 by David Hall, and NGC, founded in 1987 by John Albanese. Each TPG featured their own unique holder style, and as we near the 40th anniversary of the birth of the modern era of coin collecting, it seemed appropriate to embark on a new project showcasing the history of the major TPGs' plastic. I have been contemplating a US Type Set for some time, and what better a platform to demonstrate what a collection may have looked like circa 1990? This set will feature PCGS rattlers or NGC Fatties only, and is a work in progress.
